Triumph Stag – Exceptional, Near-Original Example – 21 Years Ownership
This car was bought by the current owner already restored, including panel replacement using original panels and an engine rebuild by Surrey Stags, which we are told 'has proved superb'.
During the current ownership of the car, it has been steadily improved and refined, largely by the customer, with the aim of returning it to as close as possible factory original specification. It has been converted from an automatic to a manual with overdrive. The manual conversion required replacing the entire dashboard, as the gear-lever surround differs between automatic and manual cars. A complete original wood set was sourced and fitted. The manual gearbox was refurbished by E J Ward, the overdrive by an overdrive specialist, and the front seats rebuilt and recovered.
The car went to Proline Specialist Finishing in Northamptonshire for a bare-metal respray and returned to the customer for reassembly. All chrome was subsequently re-plated by Derby Plating. Proline also removed the incorrectly sited radio antenna and passenger door mirror to return the car to factory-correct appearance. A discreet under-dash speaker and Bluetooth amplifier have been fitted.

It was the customers personal preference not to have the gold body stripes fitted, but there is a set that will come with the car.
The car also comes with a hardtop. This is painted but in need of some restoration.
This car is only for sale now due to the customer wanting to pursue new projects, namely a Caterham restoration.
